FAQ

1. Are Natural Mould Removal products ‘NATURAL’?

Yes, the ingredients in the products we use to control mould growth are 100% natural. The ingredients include Therapeutic grade essential oils of Clove, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Cinnamon & Lemon. They are carried in a coconut surfactant which is 100% natural.

2. Will Natural Mould Removal products kill all types of mould?

The answer is “YES”! Our specific blend of essential oils rapidly effects a 100% remediation on the entire spectrum of toxic mould, including the highly toxic black mould, or Stachybotrys Chartarum.
3. What is mould?

Mould is a non-scientific term for many types of fungi – unwanted, unappealing patches of black, brown, yellow, pink, green, smelly, fuzzy growths. Hundreds of thousands of mould species are found both indoors and outdoors. Their microscopic spores occur in virtually every environment. Mould is extremely common in homes and buildings and will grow anywhere there is moisture and a food source.

4. What causes mould to grow in my home?

Mould can grow if three basic requirements are met:

1. The presence of mould spores.
2. The presence of a food source such as dust or other organic matter including carpets, cloth, paints, wallpaper, insulation materials, gyprock and wood.
3. Moisture.

Other secondary factors contributing to possible mould growth may be poor circulation, vegetation growth near the home, water leaks, shaded areas and/or lack of sunlight.

5. Is mould TOXIC?

Mould becomes “toxic” when it is in large concentrations. If the mould spores are “toxic” and contain mycotoxins, they can adversely affect your health. The effect on your body will depend on the type of mould involved, the metabolic by-product of the mould, how much contact there is and the length of exposure, as well as the susceptibility of the individual.
6. What symptoms may be caused from mould exposure?

Some of the common symptoms caused from mould exposure are: Headaches, Skin Irritations, Sore Eyes, Coughing, Wheezing, Nausea, Sore Throat, Sneezing, Nose Bleeds, Memory Loss, Dizziness, and Respiratory Infections.
7. How does mould spread in the home?

Mould typically recolonizes through spores that are released into the air where they are carried by air currents in the home. When they land, they stay dormant until the conditions are right, then germinate and explode into colonies. The factors that determine the rate of growth include moisture, type of food or organic material, temperature etc.
8. What surfaces can be treated?

We can treat all internal walls, ceilings, furniture, carpets, curtains and blinds. We can also treat external walls, soffits, patios, roof cavities and under floor areas.
9. How much does it cost to remediate my property?

We endeavour to keep our service fees as affordable as possible for our clients. Due to our extensive experience in dealing with mould, we can quite often give you a quote over the phone for small areas.  For multi room, entire home, or commercial quotes we offer a free on-site quotation service.
10. What is fogging and why do you do it?

Fogging is an extremely important step in controlling future mould growth. After physical removal is undertaken, fogging atomises the treatment product we use (Mr Mould) down to 7-9 microns which reduces the chances of recolonisation. These particles then enter a vapour phase, killing airborne mould spores. The vapour will also penetrate to areas where physical cleaning such as in corners, behind cupboards, hollows on rough surfaces and large areas like roof cavities may not have been possible. This vapour assists in dealing with the airborne toxic mould and acts as a brilliant deodoriser, removing that unpleasant musty mould and mildew odour.

11. Will I need to repaint after treatment if I have mould staining?

Staining is the visible result of fungal metabolic processes. In other words, it is visible staining on surfaces due to mould digestion and all the related chemical things that go on when mould does its thing. After our mould remediation is completed, some staining may remain. The surfaces are now ready for repainting. We recommend using a mould resistant paint to assist in mould control in the future.

12. Do you offer mould testing and reports?

No, our business is mould removal and prevention. It would not be ethical for us to do our own testing as this would be a conflict of interest. We are however happy to refer you to a fully certified Mould Testing Laboratory for such services.

13. Do I have to vacate my property during treatment?

In most cases ‘no’, as the treatments we employ present no danger to you or your family. In most cases our processes do not require product spraying inside the home. We create minimal disruption in the home or office!

14. How long do treatments take?

Most home treatments are completed on the same day. Therefore, it is not necessary to arrange for alternative accommodation. Occupants can generally stay in the home while we complete our service.
15. Do you treat roof voids?

Yes! In many cases mould found on ceilings is due to water ingress into the roof void which is normally due to a failure in guttering or roofing or a pipe leak. In some cases, internal roof voids condensate during the evening hours, and as the day sets in, this condensation finds its way down onto ceiling surfaces. A good sign that this is happening is when mould ingress is found around the edges of ceiling surfaces. In such circumstances we usually recommend that the internal roof void be fogged with the Natural Mould Removal fogging treatment. This remediates the mould on the roof void surfaces along with airborne mould spores. A service can be tailored to deal with almost any mould treatment, removal, and ongoing defence requirements you may have.
16. Do you offer ongoing support and recommendations?

As part of our service, we provide you with a range of recommendations on how to effectively contain the return of mould and mildew. As part of these ongoing mould management initiatives, we can offer you a range of naturally based products to assist in dealing with ongoing mould management in your home.

17. Do you offer a warranty?

The Natural Mould Removal surface treatment leaves a totally natural, coconut based, micro fine, non-visible, moisture retardant coating on the treated surfaces. This micro fine defensive coating assists in retarding the return of mould. As to how long the Natural Mould treatments will last, this is as variable as the wide diversity of properties, the environments they are in and their current and ongoing state of repair! In short, we guarantee our work and products. If there is a ‘reasonably based’ issue with the works we have undertaken for a client within the first 6 months, we will return and deal with it.

What we won’t cover! Our warranty “does not cover” future premises flooding or water ingress into the property caused by either severe weather events or premise faults. It also does not cover curtains, soft furnishing, carpets, or personal possessions!
